What Does Editing Have to Do With Podcasting

Editing is one of those tricky words that can mean a lot of things. Some people use it to mean what an engineer does when they are cutting tape or creating assemblies in Pro Tools. This webinar is about a different type of editing—editorial editing: refining the content of your podcast to define its purpose and role in the audience’s life. A strong editing process not only makes each episode shine, but sets your show apart, starting with the show’s log line, description, pitches to guests, interview preps, and calls to action in your promotion.

The Three Essential Parts of Podcast Interviews

This webinar will expand on the three critical components that can lead to a stellar interview for your podcast (or any medium, actually). From choosing the right guest for a topic, to preparing beyond the basics (a list of questions is never enough), and creating the atmosphere—in person or virtually—for your guest to feel comfortable owning and sharing their story or perspective in provocative and engaging ways. You’ll end the session with tangible action items that can be applied immediately to your own interviewing and producing work.

Podcast Narratives from the Inside Out

In this webinar, author and podcast producer Laura Tillman will discuss the concept of the “interior narrative”—an emotional and intellectual arc drawn from a subject’s internal journey or the narrator's changing understanding of the subject. When you have a firm grasp of the interior narrative as an audio producer or editor, you’re liberated to pursue nonlinear storytelling structures, while remaining faithful to the central logic of the story. In the second half of the session, Tillman will lead a group discussion on how you can apply this concept to your podcast, or in strengthening the work of other storytellers as a producer.

Laura Tillman is an author, journalist, teacher, and podcast producer. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Pacific Standard and Literary Hub, among many other publications. She is an adjunct professor in the Goucher College MFA Program in Nonfiction Writing, and the Associate Producer of Who Is? from I Heart Radio. She lives in Mexico City with her family.

How to Make Sense of Your Podcast Metrics
